Did you know that it is National Student Money Week between 9th-13th February 2015? Now in its sixth year, National Student Money Week was set up in 2010 as an initiative of the National Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA). The aim of Money Week is to promote Financial Capability to students, to get students managing their money well and thinking about their finances as an integral aspect of student life.
The underlying ethos of Money Week is promotion of services - as money advisers we sometimes take for granted the fact that help and support is available to students who are struggling financially. But we also know from experience that not all students who face financial difficulties have sought advice from our office. In a nutshell this is what Money Week is all about; a chance for us to reach out to students and show them that there are a myriad of useful resources out there for them to access, should they need money-related advice.
Due to its proximity with Valentine's Day, the theme for this year's Money Week is 'Relationships and Partnerships'. To this end we have developed an event called ‘What is your Relationship with Money?’. We'll be based in the Library on Tuesday 10th February, between 10am-2pm so do come along and see what it's all about - we'll be giving away plenty of cool freebies, prizes and an awesome competition to take part in too!
The key messages we wish to communicate to students are as follows:

The key messages we wish to communicate to students are as follows:
- You don’t need to get into huge debt to survive as a student.
- ‘Debt’ is not necessarily a bad thing, and can be manageable. However caution must be used when borrowing money.
- Treat your student finance as your main source of income and budget it accordingly.
